Your first session
Start with curiosity.
The code can come next.
Choose a short first activity and stop while there is still something to wonder about. Your child makes the choices; you help make space to try, notice, and explain.
Before you sit down
- Use a laptop or desktop with a modern browser and keyboard. Jelly Jungle needs WebGL graphics and internet to load its 3D tools. Phones can read along and observe; a computer is the primary coding surface.
- Open the public first mission. You do not need installation, payment, a child account, or an AI-provider key.
- Keep paper handy for predictions and a note for next time. Use fictional characters and sample data.
- Plan a break after one short activity. The longer mission timing is a plan you can spread over several sittings.
Jelly Jungle setup: allow about 10 minutes. Six missions in order. Try one or two 5–12 minute activities, take a break, and resume at the next activity. Plan several short sittings per mission; the full 75–90 minute lesson remains the detailed reference. End each sitting with a saved copy and one sentence: next time we will… Times are estimates awaiting family pilots.
- Child · driver & designer
- Draw the route, choose one change, play the same experiment twice and show which rule made the result happen. You can dictate edits while your parent types.
- Parent · thinking partner
- Keep a working copy, read errors aloud and help locate model.js versus main.js. Ask for a prediction before taking the keyboard; let the child choose the world change and explain its result.
1. Play before editing
Press Run in the real workspace. Explore the starter together. Ask: What do the controls do? What do you want to change?
2. Make a prediction
Choose one small change in the first mission. Say what you expect before touching the code. A sketch or spoken explanation is enough.
3. Change, run, compare
Let your child make the edit with your help. Run again and compare the actual output with your prediction. An error is a clue; try undoing the last change.
4. Leave a trail
Use the workspace save controls and export a backup. In the mission guide, choose whether to remember the checklist on this device. Write one thing you will try next.
You can pause and come back
The checklist is optional, self-reported, and stored only in this browser. It is separate from workspace files. If storage is blocked or you switch computers, use your paper note and import an exported workspace backup. Later authored missions use the guardian access flow.
